Breakthrough Fear

Learn to harness fear to serve you! 

In the past few weeks we have learned that fear is the number one thing that holds us back, we learned what fear really is and then found out how it controls you! Now would you like to know how to breakthrough fear when it shows up? Glad you said yes! Let’s get right into it.

I think at this point you have a pretty good idea how fear can pose itself. The key to remember fear whether perceived or real serves a purpose and also comes with physical and emotional consequences.

There are 3 key steps to breakthrough fear!!

1) When you begin to feel fear ask yourself “What does this really mean?”. 

2) Determine the category.  Is it real, clear and present?  Is it a foreboding that something needs attention?  Is it your imagination running wild?

3) Now that you know what you are dealing with the question becomes how to deal with it! What are the appropriate steps in determining the meaning.

4) Take the appropriate action!  Fight, flight or freeze when appropriate, investigate further and break the pattern of…..yes, let’s call it what it is….worry!  Worry is the most dangerous form of fear as it takes a massive toll on your physical and mental health!

5) Evaluate the outcome and determine if you perceived correctly, took the appropriate action and how you could better deal with a similar scenario in the future.

The truth is fear never goes away, it is not always a bad thing and it can certainly lead to growth as long as you do not let fear of any kind become chronic worry!

 Now you have a formula to deal with fear!

There is one more important note to fear….. The rate at which you respond once you determine category of fear it is imperative to set a timeline for the response. In the clear and present danger you want to respond very quickly and in the perceived you will want to respond slower.  For example you see a car wreck  happen, you should call 911 immediately and then help determine the level of severity as opposed to your spouse s late to dinner you may want to hold off off the “what the f are you doing with ____ _____ _____ at the office voicemail until you are sure that’s the case, which it rarely is! Remember it is hard to take back hurtful words once they come out!
This all may seem like common sense and it should be but all too often we let our fears run wild and take knee jerk responses that we regret!

The key to breaking through fear is the 5 step process above. What is so cool you can apply it to all levels and categories of fear keeping in mind that the response times will differ.

 

My friends this is not always going to be an easy journey but I can’t stress enough that you get one life, this is not a rehearsal for the next go round!  Live you life today like it matters because it does and it is the only one you get!
