What Is Change

Change is…….

 

Have you ever said, “something has to change”?

Usually that comes at a threshold point where you have backed yourself into a corner to the point where you have no option but to change…The rock bottom scenario where the is nowhere but up you can go!

What if instead of crashing to rock bottom you actually found a way to create the changes you desire by designing your rock bottom or maybe we will call it your standard instead?

There was a time I became overweight by about 50+ pounds and I certainly wanted to change that. I was tired, achy and my health was starting to pay the price.  The challenge was two things. First I didn’t believe that it was possible to get to the level I wanted and second frankly it was not a standard!

I was living with conflicting standards. One was you can’t be your best without optimal health and the other was a belly was a sign of “success in business” or “being in love”!  Can you see the conflict?  The second was not really my belief but I heard it time and again from my peer group that it’s a sign of success or it’s ok when you are in love because “it happens to all of us”!

With that said we don’t want to lose success and love so it becomes OK to drop the standard to have those needs met!

Truth was I personally was headed for a physical train wreck if I didn’t change it and change it fast! My cholesterol was out of control and other health indicators flashing red light too!

Long story short was the was a moment (at the doctor’s office) that I hit my rock bottom threshold point and made a decision and a standard change that lasted!

50+ pounds lighter and many years later I am at my optimal weight and feel much better overall.

What changed was not a temporary patch rather a standard for how I wanted my body to look, feel and most importantly how I felt about the person I became to make that change as opposed to the person I was to allow that to have happened in the first place.

The real change was in the standard I held for myself! What about your standards? Do you act, live, and feel in congruence with your own standards?  Do you need to adjust your standards? Have you ever questioned your standards?

Simply raising your standards and taking action to level up to them can be curative in itself.

The truth is change for the better is not nearly as complex as it seems.  Setting a standard, committing to it and mapping out the steps and habits is what will give you the change you want.

Remember change is automatic, if you do nothing you will move backwards as there is no static or neutral. Taking little action or having weak standards will get you very little change.  Having high standards and taking massive actions while building strong habits is the recipe for success!

This concept is the difference between change and transformation!

My friends this is not always going to be an easy journey but I can’t stress enough that you get one life, this is not a rehearsal for the next go round!  Live you life today like it matters because it does and it is the only one you get!
